Caradco Building
The Carr, Adams, & Collier Company located in the Historic Millwork District of Dubuque IA, acted as a catalyst for a sensitive regeneration of the surrounding neighborhoods. The CARADCO Building, formerly a millwork factory, embodies Dubuque IA’s character of sustainable urban design transformed into a vibrant mix of residential, commercial, retail, and non-profit tenants.
With much of the architectural historic textures intact, the building lends itself to lighting. Defunct elevator shafts provide a mode for dappled pendants floating thru. The historic courtyard is laced with cantenary lighting on thin guide wires. Skylights and clear story dormers provide natural day light for third floor tenants and add dramatic effect at night. The unique historic warehouse incorporates sustainable and energy efficient technologies along with providing critical housing to support the workforce of Dubuque’s IBM facility.
